My father died of chronic lung disease, suffering from severe breathing difficulties, including hospitalizations to drain fluid from his lungs. Although not connected to an oxygen balloon at home, the spectacle of breathing difficulties is etched in my memory. Seemingly paradoxically, my father never smoked!
