Once the possibility of protein in the urine is ruled out, bubbles in the urine are a phenomenon that may indicate ammonia or nitrite (ammonia salt) in the urine. Ammonia is a breakdown product of proteins and a particularly potent toxin. It may be a sign of impaired liver functions. It is advisable to perform tests of liver and kidney function together.
