Allergy is a prominent example typical in COPD patients, where inflammations occur without pathogens due to the body's mistaken reaction to foreign bodies that pose no real threat.
Infection results from pathogens thriving (Bacteria, viruses, parasites). Inflammation is the immune system's reaction to the destruction of cells in our body. Of course, the definition of inflammation is much broader than infection, which usually produces an inflammatory response.
